I found the info on Insight Guide's New Zealand book useful -- and it was the most current book available for a trip in Jan. 2010 -- but the book itself is REALLY heavy, compared to other travel books (Lonely Planet, etc.) I wanted to mail it back home from Australia and found it would cost about twice the value of the book, so you have a choice of lugging it around or abandoning it.
